Capacity in Gallons
How much water does the tank store? Enough storage is vital to insure abundant hot water during the first hour of peak demand. Reliance Capacities range from 30 to 100 gallons on gas models, and from 2 to 119 gallons on electric models.

Input
The amount of gas or electricity used per hour to heat water in the tank. Input is expressed in Btu's (British Thermal Units) for gas water heaters, and Watts for electric water heaters. Higher input means the water heater can heat more water faster when needed. Reliance Inputs range from 30,000 to 75,000 Btu's on gas models, and from 1440 watts to 5500 watts on electric models.

Recovery (at 90° Rise)
Converts Btu or Watt input into gallons heated in one hour (GPH). For example, a 40,000 Btu gas water heater recovers, or heats, 41 gallons in one hour. 90° Rise means water temperature was increased by 90°F. Reliance Recoveries range from 31 to 77 GPH on gas models, and from 7.5 to 25 GPH on electric models.

First Hour Output
Also called "First Hour Rating," this "peak demand" figure estimates how much hot water the water heater will deliver during the first hour after you start using hot water. First Hour Output combines the heater's storage capacity with its recovery capability during one hour of operation. Reliance First Hour Outputs range from 54 to 143 gallons on gas models, and from 41 to 116 gallons on electric models.

New Flammable Vapor Ignition Resistant Gas Water Heaters
All 30, 40 and 50-gallon Reliance gas models, with the exception of a few speciality models, are now C3 Technology™ water heaters. They are equipped with an advanced system designed to help prevent the accidental ignition of flammable vapors from gasoline and other sources outside the water heater. C3 Technology water heaters meet new standards for "Flammable Vapor Ignition Resistance" established by the American National Standards Institute. (read more)

Remember, gasoline should never be used or stored indoors, should always be stored in sealed approved containers, and should only be used as a motor fuel!
